Laboratory Technician - Cookstown
Location: Loughry Campus, Cookstown
Pay: Approx. Β£13.75 per hour
Hours: 37 hours | Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Contract: Temporary assignment - 5 October 2026 to 31 May 2027
JDR Recruitment is recruiting a Laboratory Technician for a Northern Ireland Civil Service assignment with DAERA at CAFRE Loughry Campus.
The successful candidate will support the daily running of the science laboratory, assisting with practical education, scientific analysis and laboratory activities supporting the food industry.
The Role
You will:
- Carry out scientific analysis in the laboratory.
- Prepare equipment, materials, reagents and solvents for practical classes.
- Support laboratory and lecturing staff during student practical work.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and complete quality checks.
- Maintain, check and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Support stock control and laboratory housekeeping.
- Work in accordance with laboratory procedures, COSHH and Health & Safety requirements.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:
- GCSE/GCE O Level English Language and Mathematics at Grades A-C, or equivalent.
- GCSE/GCE O Level Double Award Science, or two Science subjects, including Biology, Chemistry or Physics, at Grades A-C or equivalent.
- At least 1 year's experience carrying out scientific analysis in a laboratory.
A Levels including Chemistry and previous experience in a teaching environment would be advantageous.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment checks and obtain Enhanced security clearance.
