Laboratory Assistant - Cookstown
Location: Loughry Campus, Cookstown
Pay: Approx. £13.41 per hour
Hours: 37 hours | Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Contract: Temporary assignment - 19 October 2026 to 31 May 2027
JDR Recruitment is recruiting a Laboratory Assistant for a Northern Ireland Civil Service assignment with DAERA Chemical and Microbiology Services at Loughry Campus.
This is a practical laboratory support role assisting scientific staff while helping maintain a safe, clean and well-organised laboratory environment.
The Role
You will:
- Maintain laboratory facilities in a clean and tidy condition.
- Clean laboratory equipment, worktops, cupboards, fridges, freezers and glassware.
- Safely dispose of contaminated laboratory waste.
- Assist scientific staff with experimental laboratory work.
- Prepare laboratory media and samples.
- Maintain stocks of chemicals, media and other consumables.
- Follow COSHH and Health & Safety procedures at all times.
- Undertake other laboratory support duties as required.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:
- Studied and passed a science subject to at least GCSE/GCE O Level standard or equivalent.
- The science qualification must have included laboratory work.
No previous laboratory employment experience is required, making this potentially suitable for candidates looking to gain practical experience within a scientific environment.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment checks and obtain Enhanced security clearance.
