Location: Bridgwater, Somerset

Shift: 4 on 4 off shift, 12 hour shifts 6am-6pm & 6pm-6am

Salary: Β£54,829 per annum

The role:

As a Shift Engineer (Multi-Skilled) you will be working within a manufacturing environment, and your job purpose is to provide first-response engineering support and maintain optimum performance of PET extrusion, thermoforming and ancillary manufacturing equipment. The role is a hands-on multi-skilled engineering position requiring both mechanical and electrical fault-finding expertise. The Shift Engineer will respond to breakdowns, carry out running repairs, support planned maintenance activities, drive reliability improvements and contribute to
Operational Excellence initiatives whilst ensuring safe and efficient plant operation. Prepare parts for brazing by cleaning, fitting, aligning, and securing components prior to joining.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-line response to equipment breakdowns across PET extrusion, thermoforming and ancillary systems.
  • Diagnose, test, repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Carry out reactive maintenance, running repairs and root cause analysis to minimise downtime.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance activities and update CMMS records accurately.
  • Service, adjust and repair machinery using safe engineering practices.
  • Support production start-ups, shutdowns, changeovers and line optimisation activities.
  • Identify equipment reliability issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Support installation of new equipment, upgrades and capital projects.
  • Work with OEMs and external suppliers to resolve technical issues.
  • Apply 5 Why, RCA and other problem-solving tools to eliminate recurring failures.
  • Support TPM, Operational Excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

About you:

As a Shift Engineer (Multi-Skilled) you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Multi-skilled engineering background with mechanical and electrical fault-finding capability.
  • Experience within manufacturing, FMCG, plastics, packaging or process industries.
  • Strong fault diagnosis and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience with motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics and control systems.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and perform under pressure during breakdown situations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • HNC, apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.

Desirable Experience

  • PET extrusion experience.
  • Thermoforming experience.
  • PLC fault-finding experience.
  • Continuous Improvement or TPM experience.
  • Project installation and commissioning experience.
