The Opportunity

As an Operations Engineer, you'll be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault diagnosis, and operational optimisation across customer installations throughout Bedford and the surrounding areas. Working independently across a variety of customer sites, you'll ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance while delivering exceptional customer service. This is a varied field-based role offering technical challenges, ongoing training, and excellent opportunities to progress within a growing engineering organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planned & Reactive Maintenance
    • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on power generation installations
    • Respond to breakdowns and complete reactive maintenance efficiently
    • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults
    • Complete service reports and maintenance documentation accurately
    • Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
  • Fault Finding & Diagnostics
    • Investigate faults across mechanical, electrical, and control systems
    • Identify root causes and implement effective repair solutions
    • Carry out testing following repairs and maintenance activities
    • Escalate complex technical issues where required
  • Operational Performance
    • Optimise the performance and efficiency of customer installations
    • Monitor system operation and recommend improvements
    • Help reduce equipment downtime and improve operational reliability
    • Support customers in maximising system productivity and performance
  • Customer Support
    • Deliver exceptional customer service during every site visit
    • Build strong working relationships with customers and site personnel
    • Provide technical advice and recommendations where appropriate
    • Represent the business professionally at all times
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Follow all health & safety policies and site procedures
    • Ensure compliance with engineering standards and industry regulations
    • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment to a high standard
    • Complete all work in accordance with safe working practices

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • ONC, NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds Level 2, or equivalent qualification in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Motor Vehicle Studies
    • Related Engineering Discipline

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years' industrial mechanical and/or electrical engineering experience
  • Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Technician
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Gas engines
    • Diesel engines
    • Power generation equipment
    • Mechanical and electrical systems
  • Experience carrying out preventative maintenance, servicing, and fault diagnosis
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Full UK driving licence

Working Hours

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Additional Requirements

  • Participation in a 24-hour on-call rota
  • Occasional weekend working
