Our client, a fantastic employee owned company in North Somerset, are currently recruiting for a Design Team Lead to join their growing team. As Design Team Lead you will report to the Technical Manager, and be responsible for overseeing the day to day activities of the Design team. You will have relationships with all other departments while being an active member of the design team. This is a hybrid office / home role after 6 months.

Location: Clevedon, North Somerset

Salary: circa £55000

Overview: Please note; you must be able to evidence previous work experience with Power Electronics and High Voltage.

Responsibilities and Duties within the Design Dept:

  • Design, development and support of power and control circuits, both digital and analogue.
  • Communicating design strategies to assist with product development and goals.
  • Provide technical support, know how and guidance to the Design team.
  • Training and development plans for team members.
  • New product implementation as part of the Design Team.
  • Research of electronics and power circuits.
  • Understand product requirements and implementation of these in the product and application, whilst understanding commercial and business requirements.
  • Follow departmental processes relating to management of designs and also the company-wide new product development processes.
  • Working through product life cycle, from schematic, layout, proof of concept, supply chain, tests, approvals to product delivery.
  • Provide expertise on the customer application to guide the design process.
  • Carries out detailed electronic circuit design and layout, including simulation and design verification testing of the new design.
  • Component selection and management, considering obsolescence, availability and cost.
  • Work with production, test and service to ensure that DFx engineering approach is followed, including manufacturing, test, service and financial.
  • Ensure product test strategy is implemented and followed throughout design.
  • Writing specifications and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with and support leading experts and academics in the company Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
  • Support of existing products, understanding life cycle and MTBF, managing hardware/firmware issues whilst involves working closely with the customer (internal or external).
  • Overseeing development of firmware and software for the existing and next generation of charge controls, actively applying newer technologies and frameworks to futureproof solutions and internal capability.

Qualifications / Knowledge:

  • Degree in Power Electronics, Embedded Electronics, Embedded Systems or equivalent.
  • Experienced in hardware system design.
  • Schematic and PCB layout (OrCad).
  • Use of electrical test equipment such as PSUs, Load banks, DMM/DVM, oscilloscope/analysers, signal/function generators.
  • Creative and methodical approach to design and test.
  • Analytical approach to fault finding.
  • Use of software IDEs, development boards and emulators to assist with embedded programming an advantage.
  • Microsoft Office products including Outlook, OneNote, Word, Excel and Teams/SharePoint.
  • Agile management, including JIRA, would be an advantage.
  • 123 Insight knowledge an advantage.
