An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to join a fast-paced and growing manufacturing and distribution operation. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a national fleet operation, ensuring efficient deliveries across the UK while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, safety, and operational performance.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in driving operational excellence, leading transport teams, improving fleet efficiency, and supporting continued business growth.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the day-to-day operation of a mixed fleet of articulated HGVs and light commercial vehicles
- Plan and coordinate nationwide delivery schedules and collection routes to maximise fleet utilisation
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, tachograph legislation, and Working Time Directive rules
- Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the Operator Licence
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and defect reporting processes
- Monitor driver performance, driver hours, and fleet compliance standards
- Lead and support drivers and loading teams through effective management, coaching, and development
- Coordinate closely with warehouse, production, and customer service teams to ensure smooth operations
- Manage transport costs, fuel usage, and operational efficiencies
- Investigate incidents, delays, and compliance issues while implementing corrective actions
- Promote a strong health and safety culture across all transport activities
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and customer service
- CPC in Road Haulage (National or International)
- Valid HGV Category C+E licence
- Up-to-date Driver CPC qualification
- Proven experience within a Transport Manager or similar fleet management role
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience managing mixed fleets and transport operations
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
- A proactive and hands-on management style
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to perform well under pressure
