Our client is a large national service organisation and has their own fleet of HGV vehicles and workshop. Due to expansion, they are looking for a HGV Workshop Control Manager (Monday - Friday 8 - 5) to manage their in-house technicians within the service department. There is a large team of over 20 employees working shifts through a 24-hour period, 7 days a week. You will play a key part in the efficient running of the operations. This role ensures that the daily workshop requirements are met. You will be closely managing the workload and staff's performance to the required standard. You must be able to communicate at all levels throughout the business and therefore come with excellent customer skills. Leading by example and building the team environment is crucial in this role. This is a fantastic opportunity for candidates with experience in a similar management role within HGV servicing. However, the client is willing to interview candidates from a technician background who are ready to take on a management position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning, coordination, and control of daily workshop operations.
  • Support the management of workflow to ensure service and repair work is completed to agreed timescales and quality standards.
  • Monitor job progress and resolve operational issues.
  • Support capacity planning and effective utilisation of labour and resources.
  • Work closely with the management teams.
  • Ensure all HGV service, maintenance, and repair work is scheduled effectively to maximise workshop productivity.
  • Responsible for supporting and promoting health and safety compliance within the service department in line with company and legal requirements.
  • Escalate significant issues to hierarchy.
  • Responsible for all workshop technicians, apprentices, and support staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support staff in achieving departmental objectives.
  • Assist in managing staffing levels and resolving issues.
  • Advise managers of next steps to be taken and update on work during the repair process.
  • Assist in monitoring departmental KPIs including productivity, efficiency, and quality.
  • Support compliance, meet standards and KPIs.
  • Assist the management with audit performance reviews.
  • Ensure administration is completed correctly and the effective use of management systems.
  • Promote accurate job costing, documentation, and record keeping.

Hours of work: MONDAY - FRIDAY 8 - 5. Please note you will be required to take calls some evenings and weekends on occasions to ensure that any queries or concerns are dealt with as the workshop is a 24-hour operation.

Salary: Basis £45k + Excellent benefit package. Additional benefits include: 30 days annual leave, company pension, free car parking, life insurance, additional company benefits, company training and development.
