As JDR’s exciting expansion into Cambois, Blyth continues to gain momentum, we are looking to recruit an Apprentice Process Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring engineer to develop hands-on experience within a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment while working towards a recognised engineering qualification.
The Apprentice Process Engineer will support the Process Engineering team in optimising manufacturing processes, improving production performance, and introducing new products safely and efficiently across the plant. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain exposure to the full manufacturing lifecycle while developing the technical and problem-solving skills needed for a successful career in engineering.
During your apprenticeship, your key responsibilities will include:
- Support the promotion of a Safety-First culture, adhering to JDR safety rules and procedures at all times.
- Assist Process Engineers in monitoring and improving manufacturing KPIs, including equipment efficiency, throughput and downtime.
- Learn how to support daily production operations, including standard works, cleaning, inspection, start-ups, shutdowns and changeovers.
- Help develop and maintain technical and operating standards, including standard operating procedures, care points and troubleshooting guides.
- Support engineers in designing and improving manufacturing processes to reduce defects and improve productivity.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Gain experience supporting new product introductions and project launches, ensuring processes are safe, effective and repeatable.
- Support troubleshooting activities by gathering data and contributing to root cause analysis and problem solving.
- Work with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality and Engineering to understand how manufacturing projects are delivered.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and curious individual who is passionate about engineering and eager to develop their skills within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will ideally have:
- A strong interest in engineering or manufacturing
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
- The ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Good communication and organisational skills
- A growth mindset with the confidence to ask questions and learn from experience
