Join to apply for the Design Engineer role at JDR Cable Systems. Following internal movements within the department, we are currently recruiting a Design Engineer to join our busy design team based in Hartlepool.

As a Design Engineer, you will provide support to the design team on hardware and umbilical/cable design activities, making key technical decisions based on your experience. You should be proficient in Autodesk software, specifically Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Vault, and adaptable to bespoke or non-standard software packages.

Your responsibilities include generating documentation and designs, including calculations and reports for commercial projects. Your main duties will be:

  • Conduct detailed design engineering for new projects, collaborating with other departments to understand customer and project requirements and supporting proposals, purchasing, project management, quality, and production teams.
  • Develop cost-effective engineered solutions considering materials and manufacturability, while meeting customer and internal requirements.
  • Liaise with suppliers on technical matters.
  • Operate CAD and design software, maintain files and work environment in accordance with JDR procedures.
  • Produce design calculations and reports supporting hardware designs.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and suppliers, communicate regularly with the Senior Design Engineer, and meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Support on-site manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure quality, cost, and delivery objectives are achieved.
  • Ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and adherence to relevant procedures, guidelines, and standards during all activities.
  • Communicate effectively within the team to address design issues efficiently, maintaining high accuracy in all outputs.
  • Attention to detail and analytical problem-solving are essential, including reviewing client documentation and procedures.
  • Enjoy working in a diverse, supportive team environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
