JDL Recruitment is excited to partner with a rapidly expanding data center developer who is seeking to hire an Infrastructure Manager based in London. This is a hybrid opportunity offering a local package which includes a basic salary, annual bonus, long term share incentive, pension and healthcare.

Summary

The Infrastructure Manager has a day-to-day reporting relationship to the Commercial Director and will play a key role in the successful delivery of high voltage substation and connection projects across all data centre developments. The role will require strong HV technical understanding, demonstrated experience understanding and operating within policy frameworks with power authorities and regulators, manage procurement of large-scale projects from design through to commissioning and responsible for developing and managing strong relationships with Utility stakeholders and technical consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end delivery of high voltage substation, fibre connections, and grid connection projects, ensuring all components are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet the highest quality and technical standards.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with utilities, technical consultants and other energy stakeholders.
  • Develop strong relations and interface with utility and energy partners as the key contact.
  • Accountable for reviewing the related disciplines in the design process, providing instruction to RFIs and review/approve technical submittals.
  • Provide management, technical direction, decision-making and leadership for data centre HV procurement.
  • Develop renewable energy sourcing options and other sustainability initiatives in alignment with ESD mandates and customer requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and contractors. Provide regular updates on project progress and key milestones.
  • Use technical knowledge in ensuring the successful delivery of projects within budget, scope, and timeline.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships and understanding of preferred vendor solutions to ensure efficient, cost effective and effective design solutions for technical requirements and integration.
  • Lead Project Management resource/s in managing the preparation of project documentation.
  • Scope, tender and engage consultancy services required for each project.
  • Manage the projects design requirements including peer reviews, presentations, internal stakeholder review and coordination.
  • Provide feedback on project, contractor and consultant performance to Commercial Director.
  • Identify potential risks in the project and develop mitigation plans to reduce or eliminate risks.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Contribute to the feasibility phase by undertaking due diligence activities to validate technical solutions in site selection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, plus minimum ten (10) years’ of relevant experience within utility network planning, procurement, project delivery and commissioning.
  • Strong project management or project lead experience including RFQ/RFP process, selecting relevant engineering teams, developing budgets, coordinating multiple consultant teams and facilitating meetings.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in commercial, business and energy markets.
  • Demonstrate understanding of hyperscale and co-location data centre operator’s technical requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong technical understanding of high voltage systems, including substations, transmission lines, electrical equipment, and network connections.
  • Strong proven experience in managing complex engineering projects with a focus on delivery, including experience with project management methodologies, risk management, and quality control.
  • Detailed knowledge of HV infrastructure and construction, and cost pricing.
