You’ll work closely with internal investment and asset teams as well as external developers, EPCs, OEMs, and grid stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly, and to performance expectations. This role is the first of its kind for this business, so you will have freedom and responsibility to build out this function for scale.
Key Responsibilities

- Develop and review technical specifications, employer’s requirements, and scopes of work
- Support technology selection including battery OEMs, PCS, EMS, and system integrators
- Review and challenge EPC, BoP, and OEM designs (electrical, civil, fire safety, thermal, controls)
- Support technical due diligence for acquisitions and development-stage investments
- Interface with grid stakeholders to ensure compliance with UK grid codes and connection agreements
- Support RMS and EMT modelling activities alongside PCS and EMS providers
- Oversee FAT, SAT, commissioning, and performance testing
- Monitor construction activities and identify technical risks, non-compliances, and defects
- Support defect resolution, warranty claims, and supplier engagement
- Ensure compliance with UK and international standards (BS, IEC, G99/G100, fire safety guidance)
- Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement across the portfolio
- Provide technical input into investment papers, risk assessments, and governance forums
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline
- 5–8+ years’ experience in utility-scale BESS, renewables, or power infrastructure
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion batteries, PCS, EMS, HV/LV systems, and BoP
- Experience reviewing EPC designs and managing multi-party technical interfaces
- Working knowledge of UK grid connection processes and regulatory standards
- Strong analytical capability with a risk-focused, performance-driven mindset
- Clear and confident communicator, able to engage non-technical stakeholders
- Willingness to travel regularly to sites and supplier facilities
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards it)
- Experience across development, construction, and operational phases
- Knowledge of BESS fire safety engineering and safety case development
- Exposure to degradation modelling, lifecycle performance, or revenue optimisation
- Awareness of ESG, sustainability, and H&S considerations in energy infrastructure
Personal Attributes
- Detail-oriented problem solver with sound professional judgement
- Comfortable working independently and within multidisciplinary teams
- Adaptable and resilient in fast-paced, investment-led environments
- High standards of accountability, integrity, and ownership
- Willing to be in office or on-site 4 days per week.
