A global Independent Power Producer is expanding its renewable energy and storage portfolio and is seeking an experienced engineering leader to drive the development and execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid renewable projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and technical configuration of BESS plants (>10 MW) and oversee a team of engineering specialists.
  • Manage design documentation, preliminary site studies (geo, topo, hydro), and technology evaluations.
  • Define optimal technical solutions and project layouts; prepare preliminary CAPEX estimates and development schedules.
  • Oversee engineering activities through all phases: feasibility, basic design, execution, and commissioning.
  • Support field engineering, construction interfaces, and operational readiness activities.
  • Coordinate internal and external technical stakeholders, including consultants and framework partners.

Technical Due Diligence & Investment Support

  • Lead technical reviews for greenfield and M&A storage opportunities.
  • Support commercial modelling, cost assessments, risk reviews, and FID decision processes.
  • Ensure alignment with grid codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IEC, IEEE, etc.).

Technology Application & Innovation

  • Apply advanced knowledge of battery chemistries, EMS/BMS systems, power electronics, and control strategies.
  • Evaluate hybrid configurations (BESS + PV/wind) and define storage use cases such as frequency regulation, peak shaving, and energy shifting.
  • Contribute to innovation initiatives relating to hybrid plant operations and digital asset management.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in engineering (electrical preferred); master’s in energy systems or electrical engineering is an advantage.
  • 10+ years in the energy sector, with 6+ years of BESS design and implementation.
  • Strong team leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven experience across feasibility, basic, and construction-level design.
  • Knowledge of HV/MV/LV systems, plant design, EMS/BMS architecture, inverters, thermal systems, and grid compliance.
  • Ability to travel internationally for site inspections, meetings, and engineering reviews.
