CAD/BIM Technician Electrical Building Services Company: JD McGeown Ltd Salary: depending on experience and ability Location: South Belfast, with travel to project sites About JD McGeown Established in 1961, JD McGeown Ltd provides electrical engineering and facilities management services across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, education, healthcare, hospitality and community projects. With offices in Belfast, Derry/Londonderry and Dublin, and a team of more than 90 people, we deliver electrical installations, maintenance, testing, lighting, data cabling and energy management services. As our CAD and BIM activities continue to grow, we are looking for a CAD/BIM Technician to join our team. About the role You will help turn complex electrical designs into accurate, clear and coordinated drawings and models that support construction teams throughout project delivery. Working with our project managers, engineers and external project teams, you will use CAD and Revit software to develop drawings and BIM models that meet project specifications and reflect site requirements. This is a practical role combining drawing and modelling work with site visits and project meetings. It would suit someone with a logical mind, a methodical approach and a strong eye for detail. Your responsibilities Produce and update electrical drawings and BIM models using CAD and Revit software. Interpret design information and present it clearly for construction and installation. Coordinate electrical layouts with architectural, structural and mechanical information. Identify discrepancies, coordination issues and missing information, and raise these with the project team. Visit construction sites to take measurements, review progress and gather information for drawing updates. Attend meetings with clients, main contractors, mechanical contractors and JD McGeown management. Maintain accurate drawing records, revisions and associated project information. Deliver work to agreed deadlines, project specifications and quality requirements. Essential criteria A strong grounding in CAD drawing production. Practical experience using Revit to produce or develop 3D models. Experience contributing to BIM projects through employment, education or a relevant portfolio. An understanding of how drawings and models support project coordination and construction. The ability to interpret technical information and follow project requirements accurately. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Clear communication skills and a proactive approach to resolving problems. The ability to organise your workload and work effectively with others. A full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites. The ability to undertake site visits and measurement activities, with reasonable adjustments where required. Desirable criteria Experience producing electrical building services drawings or Revit models. Knowledge of electrical installations and construction processes. Experience coordinating electrical services with other disciplines. A relevant qualification in CAD, BIM, digital construction or a related subject, such as a Level 3 qualification in Digital Construction with BIM. Electrical industry experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential.
