ip Paralegal in Bury St Edmunds

The Role

This is a paralegal role specialising in Intellectual Property. You will be working closely with the Senior IP Counsel providing support to the JD Group in all areas of Intellectual Property and Brand Protection matters.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

You will assist the Senior IP Counsel and the wider JD Group with the following tasks:

• Maintaining and monitoring the IP portfolio of the JD Group.
• Filing UK trade mark applications.
• Attending to Registry matters at the UK Intellectual Property Office and World Intellectual Property Office.
• IP and case law research.
• Working with overseas attorneys to obtain IP protection.
• Assisting with domain name complaints.
• IP training to the legal team and the wider JD Group.
• Liaising with business stakeholders across the JD Group.
• Generating IP reports and analysing data.
• General administrative support.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge Needed

• Law Degree.
• Experience of working as a paralegal.
• Strong attention to detail and organisation skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Self‑motivated, ambitious, team player with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment as well as a commercial mindset with an ability to explain matters clearly and simply to non‑legal stakeholders.
• Ability to think outside the box and support the Legal Team and the business in finding effective solutions.
• The ability to work with all levels of the JD Group business.

Desirable

• Experience of working as an IP / Trade Mark administrator or paralegal would be beneficial.
• Good understanding of trade mark law would be beneficial.
• Experience of working in retail/FMCG/customer facing industry sector would be beneficial.
• Prior in‑house experience (especially in retail) is beneficial but not required.
