About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Tax Specialist to join our finance team in London. This role is ideal for someone with solid experience in corporate income tax (CIT), value-added tax (VAT), and exposure to environmental and minor taxes. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring full compliance with UK and international tax regulations, supporting tax filings, advising on tax implications of business activities, and contributing to tax strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance & Reporting
  • Prepare and review corporate income tax (CIT) filings in compliance with UK tax laws.
  • Ensure timely and accurate VAT submissions, including analysis of transactions and reconciliations.
  • Support tax accounting and reporting requirements for statutory audits and monthly/quarterly closings.
  • Prepare and manage minor taxes (e.g., business rates, stamp duty, withholding tax) and environmental taxes (e.g., plastic packaging tax, climate levies).
  • Advisory & Support
  • Provide internal tax advice on new business initiatives, cross-border transactions, and operational changes.
  • Collaborate with finance and commercial teams on tax planning opportunities.
  • Support tax risk management by identifying potential exposures and proposing mitigation measures.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Liaise with HMRC, external advisors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in managing tax audits and responding to tax authority queries.
  • Process Improvement
  • Drive automation and process enhancement for tax compliance workflows.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK and international tax legislation and assess its business impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; tax-specific qualifications (e.g., CTA, ACA, or ACCA) preferred.
  • Relevant tax experience in a corporate or Big Four environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK CIT, VAT, environmental taxes, and minor levies.
  • Familiarity with tax software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
