This is a newly created position within JD Worldwide's International Legal and Compliance Department, created to support the business as it scales across the UK and EU. You will guide the business on the legal and regulatory side of its marketplace - how third-party sellers join and operate on the platform, how the platform meets its obligations to consumers and regulators, and how JD manages the risks that come with running a busy online marketplace. As JD scales, this role helps the business grow its marketplace on solid legal footing across Europe.

What you'll do:

  • Oversee the marketplace policies and terms and conditions, and continue to develop them as the business and regulation evolve.
  • Work closely with the marketplace team to build legal and regulatory requirements into how the marketplace runs day to day.
  • Guide the platform's obligations under the Digital Services Act and the wider rules that apply to online marketplaces.
  • Advise on consumer protection and product safety as they apply on the platform.
  • Advise on the platform's position on third-party listings and the basis for acting on non-compliant sellers.
  • Act as a point of contact for regulators and authorities, and advise the business on enforcement risk and how to manage it.
  • Track takedown actions and keep oversight of how seller and listing issues are resolved.
  • Partner with the privacy, IP and brand, and product teams so marketplace matters join up across the wider compliance picture.
  • Keep on top of the UK and EU marketplace and platform-regulation pipeline and flag what matters to the business.

What we're looking for:

  • A qualified solicitor or lawyer (England & Wales or equivalent EU jurisdiction; dual qualification an advantage), with 8-12 years' post-qualification experience, a good part of it relevant to e-commerce or marketplaces.
  • Fluency in a second EU language an advantage - German, French, Dutch, Spanish or Portuguese all valued.
  • A background combining commercial, regulatory or consumer work at a recognised law firm with in-house experience at a scaled e-commerce, marketplace, retail or consumer-facing business.
  • Good knowledge of consumer law and a solid grasp of the EU digital rulebook as it applies to marketplaces - the DSA in particular, with awareness of product-safety and platform-liability rules.
  • Experience advising a platform or marketplace on seller terms, consumer protection or regulatory matters a strong advantage.
  • A practical, action-oriented operator who is highly organised and able to bring structure to a fast-moving environment.
  • A confident communicator, comfortable partnering directly with the business and seeing matters through to resolution.
  • Comfortable working across multiple European jurisdictions and translating complex rules into clear, commercial advice.
  • Comfortable working in an environment where processes and frameworks are still developing.

Why this role:

JD Worldwide is scaling fast, and its marketplace sits at the heart of that growth - which makes getting the legal and regulatory side right both demanding and genuinely interesting. This role offers real breadth, from seller terms and consumer protection to the newest platform regulation, with meaningful ownership of your area and direct exposure to senior leadership. For a commercially minded lawyer who wants to help shape how a fast-growing marketplace operates, this is a genuine opportunity to contribute to a function that is still being built.
