As a Customs Manager, your mission is to supervise customs activities carried out by operators related to the supply chain (forwarders, customs agents, suppliers, factories, etc.), comply with the standards and deadlines required by the department, and ensure the regular development of customs clearance. You will represent the organisation towards European customs authorities and related authorities and be the first point of contact for issues pertaining to the receipt of goods into the EU.
Responsibilities:- Drawing up, describing and managing customs processes, procedures and work instructions.
- Monitoring quality by carrying out, reporting on and discussing internal checks.
- Classifying goods and recording said classification.
- Managing packaging, plastic and other environmental obligations across the EU, including CBAM, EUDR etc.
- Managing internal stakeholders by communicating with the various departments involved with Customs (such as Buying, Commercial Operations, Inbound Logistics, Tax and Finance).
- Claims handling and preparation of requests for refunds, additional payments and objections.
- As a project team member, participating in long-term improvement projects in the field of customs, such as understanding customs requirements and setting up customs processes and procedures for imports into Switzerland and the UK.
- Optimisation and contract renewals for external service providers.
- Selection of third-party automation/IT tools for customs.
- Implementation and optimisation of the verification process for customs duties (customs duties vs reserves).
- Application process for customs permits and excise taxes, including alcohol, coffee and sugar taxes.
- Bachelor’s degree/HBO in International Trade, Finance, Logistics Management etc.
- Certificate Customs Consultant (Douane declarant).
- Familiar with customs compliance / T1 traffic.
- English at professional level.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in related fields.
- Pro-active, motivated and stress resistant.
- Capacity to focus, adapt to changes and perform in dynamic environments.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, Excel proficient level.
- Planning, conflict analysis and resolution.
- Flexibility, proactiveness and initiative.
- Clear and direct communication skills.
