Join us in creating joyful, memorable experiences for campers by supporting a wide variety of exciting activities, including (but not limited to): Arts & Crafts, Archery, Boating, Ceramics, Climbing Wall, Cooking, Gymnastics, Jewelry Making, Mountain Biking, Ropes Course, Sewing and more.

As an Assistant, you don't need prior teaching experience or advanced skills in group management. All you need is an interest in the activity area and a willingness to learn and support the Specialist in delivering engaging experiences for campers. Are you ready to make this summer unforgettable?

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist Specialist in leading creative, safe and engaging age-appropriate activities for all assigned campers with varying interest levels and abilities.
  • Co-create a community which fosters mutual respect and welcomes the diversity/uniqueness of each person.
  • Assist Specialist in teaching and developing skills necessary to complete the planned project.
  • Assist Specialist with the management of supplies, set up, and clean up.
  • Work in partnership with peers and Camp Leadership to provide a happy, safe, and memorable summer for the children.
  • Join all staff in the parking lot in the morning and afternoon to welcome the safe arrival and departure of campers.
  • Role will also include assisting in activities or help with Family Night or cookout, one or two evenings (after regular camp hours) throughout the course of the summer.

  • Actively participate as an essential team member and attend all staff meetings during or after camp as required.
  • Support JCC Greater Boston's mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration, and transformation, including through role modeling.
  • Enthusiastically represent the organization, modeling excellence and achievement.
  • Complete all staff payroll and onboarding on time and before Orientation begins.
  • Complete all pre-camp asynchronous online training modules and attend all pre-camp in-person orientation sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Details:

We are an outdoor camp, located on beautiful, wooded property in Dover, MA. This is an hourly position, Monday - Friday, for the camp season. The regular Camp day begins when you arrive at Camp (typically between 8:45 and 9:15) and ends at 4pm. In addition, most staff are expected to attend 3 or 4 staff meetings on Monday afternoons at Camp and/or evenings at JCC Greater Boston. Activity Specialist Assistants also work 1 or 2 additional evenings (dinner provided!) over the course of the summer- either assisting in their activity or assisting with a family night or cookout, depending on their position in camp. Offering great perks, including JCC Health & Fitness center access, a supportive, vibrant in-person work environment, and a competitive starting pay rate of $15 per hour. The pay rate offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, experience and JCC's internal equity.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 15 years-old, have completed or are completing 10th grade, and able to get a work permit.
  • Experience working with children is a plus.
  • Experience working in and/or attending summer camp is a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Has an interest in the subject area and the ability to learn the necessary skills in order to help teach the campers.
  • Takes direction well and enjoys helping and learning.
  • Possesses the ability to create a sense of fun.
  • Models maturity and reliability with the ability to stay playful – exhibiting flexibility, patience, innovative problem solving and collaboration.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in-person, on-site in Dover, Massachusetts.
  • Must be able to navigate 70 acres of rugged, uneven and rustic campgrounds independently.
  • Comfortable working all or most of the day outdoors or inside without air conditioning.
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children's backpacks etc.).
