Opportunity – Senior Design Engineer – Mid Range
We’re looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join JCB’s Mid-Range Engineering team at our World Headquarters in Rocester.
Working on one of JCB’s most iconic and highest-volume product ranges, you will play a key role in the ongoing development of the world’s number one Backhoe Loader.
This position offers the opportunity to influence engineering change across a diverse product portfolio, from core production machines to highly specialised customer configurations.
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where innovation, problem solving and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.
You will take ownership of engineering projects, develop robust design solutions and work closely with colleagues across the business and our global engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Leading and delivering small to medium-sized engineering projects, ensuring objectives, timescales and quality requirements are achieved.
- Developing innovative and practical design solutions that consider assembly, manufacture and serviceability throughout the product lifecycle.
- Creating and maintaining formal engineering documentation, including DFMEA, DVPSOR and technical specifications.
- Producing design concepts, design briefs and technical proposals for both bespoke customer requirements and product improvement initiatives.
- Investigating and resolving service, reliability and warranty issues through effective engineering solutions.
- Collaborating closely with Sales & Marketing, Operations, Service and Quality teams to ensure product requirements are successfully delivered.
- Managing sales special and service project trackers, while providing guidance and support to engineers assigned to project activities.
- Working closely with JCB's engineering teams in India and external suppliers to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.
- Supporting product compliance activities, ensuring designs meet relevant legislation, standards and company requirements.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and driving engineering excellence across the team.
Qualifications
- Held an HNC, HND or Degree level in an Engineering discipline.
- Proven experience within mechanical design engineering, ideally within off‑highway, agricultural, automotive or related industries.
- Experience using Siemens NX (Unigraphics), PLM systems and engineering change management processes.
- A strong understanding of BOM structures and their interaction with manufacturing and production systems.
- Sound knowledge of engineering principles, combined with a logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
- Understanding the importance of designing for manufacture, assembly and serviceability.
- Familiarity with engineering legislation, compliance requirements and industry standards.
- Confidence managing projects, coordinating stakeholders and working with external suppliers.
- Thriving in a fast‑paced environment with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive, self‑motivated and taking ownership of work from concept through to delivery.
- Enjoying collaboration with cross‑functional and international teams to achieve shared goals.
