As a Grounds and Horticulture Assistant at JCB Golf & Country Club, you will be responsible for the maintenance of all common areas, landscaped property surrounds and woodlands within the golf course facility, along with assisting with planting displays in any golf course property when required. Work involves a variety of duties to maintain these areas, ensuring that they are presented in the best possible condition at all times, whilst adhering to the rules and regulations established for the operation.

What does this role involve day to day?

  • Ensure that care is taken at all times to prevent any long‑term damage to the turf/landscaped areas.
  • Understand the company’s policies on health and safety and ensure that all duties performed are carried out with full regard to the safety of customers, visitors, contractors and other employees; work within the health and safety, COSHH, Risk Assessment and SOP guidelines at all times.
  • Along with adhering to the rules and regulations, proposals and recommendations should be made to enhance these.
  • Responsible for the care of machinery and the reporting of loss or damage to Supervisor/Head Mechanic.
  • Supervises and undertakes all maintenance aspects of grass, shrubs, trees and flower planting as well as landscaping works and woodland clearance within the golf course site and its properties.
  • Participates in the propagation of grass and other plants.
  • Any required task to contribute to the workflow and smooth running of the department/organisation.

This will be suited to you if:

  • You have enhanced knowledge of recreational operations and maintenance work involved.
  • You have enhanced knowledge of the methods used in the care and maintenance of a high‑end facility.
  • You have enhanced knowledge of the uses and operating methods of the equipment and tools used in turf management and maintenance.
  • You have enhanced knowledge of turf diseases, and the methods and chemicals used to control them.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively.
  • Must maintain a positive attitude in all work‑related circumstances.
  • SVQ/NVQ 3 in horticulture or equivalent.
  • PA1, PA2 & PA6 favourable.
  • CS30 & CS31 Chainsaw favourable.
  • Full UK driving license essential.
  • Experience of dealing successfully with customers and demonstrating effective customer care.
