We are currently partnering with a well-established, highly recognisable consumer business to recruit an experienced Senior Payroll Manager. We're looking for someone with excellent payroll knowledge, strong leadership experience and a solid understanding of UK payroll legislation. But that's only part of the story. We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people. Someone who builds relationships effortlessly, supports and develops their team, and is approachable, collaborative and trusted by colleagues across the business. Someone who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves, get stuck in and lead from the front.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll oversee payroll operations across the business, manage a small team, act as the payroll expert and continuously look for ways to improve processes and the colleague experience. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical payroll expertise with people leadership and continuous improvement. Reporting into the HR Director, you'll play a key leadership role within the People function, taking ownership of payroll operations while leading a small team and acting as the business's payroll subject matter expert. This is a varied position offering exposure across payroll operations, employee benefits, payroll systems, compliance and business-wide stakeholder management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing a team of payroll professionals
- Ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of monthly payrolls
- Acting as the technical expert for UK payroll legislation and compliance
- Managing relationships with payroll and benefits providers
- Driving payroll process improvements and system enhancements
- Supporting and advising stakeholders across the wider business on payroll-related matters
We're keen to speak with individuals who have:
- Experience of managing complex, in-house payrolls
- Previous experience leading or mentoring payroll teams
- Excellent knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and problem solving
Experience of People XD, Fourth or similar payroll systems would be advantageous, although candidates with experience of other enterprise payroll systems are encouraged to apply. If you're looking for a visible leadership role within a successful and growing organisation where you can genuinely make an impact, I'd be delighted to have a confidential conversation.
