Working within our Proseal business as a Senior Specialist Mechanical Design Engineer (Tooling), you will report to the Mechanical Design Manager (Tooling). As a Senior Specialist Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work to provide solutions for all aspects of machinery tooling design for packaging machinery. You will be required to work with a team of designers to specify, design, build and commission tooling and machinery. We are looking for someone who is keen, willing to learn and has a passion for mechanical design!

You will join a team of 7 engineers within the Mechanical Design Team and will report to our Mechanical Design Manager (Tooling), who focuses on coaching and mentoring the team. As a Senior Specialist Mechanical Design Engineer, you will predominantly be based in the office, but you will also be required to communicate with other departments on the shop floor as required. Flexibility to travel is also a requirement as travel to customers’ sites both domestic and abroad may be required.

The opportunity:

  • Daily involvement with highly technical automated packaging machinery.
  • Developing strong relationships with team members, vendors and partners.
  • Managing resources and ensuring timely delivery of projects.
  • Carrying out the design process and development for both new and existing products.
  • Supervise and oversee the designs ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Creating customer specific machine design parts lists using standard donor drawings.
  • Housekeeping serial number folder and serial number file ensuring changes to machines are documented.
  • Design parts and assemblies for use on Proseal machines and others.
  • Use 3D and 2D CAD software and if possible be able to exchange drawings between different CAD formats.
  • Work closely with our manufacturing department to ensure parts are efficiently produced.
  • Use Proseal procedures to create, name and store new parts.
  • Be responsible for preparing bills of materials for the manufacture of the designs and assemblies, including documenting all part numbers and drawing references.
  • Work with colleagues, assisting with potential quality issues through production.
  • Create reports for potential pitfalls within the production process.
  • Assisting Senior Management with matters relating to product development.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs in the design, materials used and manufacturing techniques.
  • Provide feedback for continuous improvement of products and services.

The ideal candidate:

  • Experience in all aspects of MS Office, Excel is essential, and a strong competence with CAD software would be seen as beneficial.
  • The job involves working in a busy customer-focused office, so the candidate should be outgoing and a confident person, able to work with confidence within internal teams and be able to manage complex problems using their own initiative.
  • The successful candidate will have completed an Engineering Qualification, either an ONC/HNC or HND and have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working within a mechanical design environment.
  • The individual will be required to hold a current driving licence and will be expected to use company vehicles and/or property in a competent, efficient and responsible manner at all times.
