An established critical power business is seeking a Head of Technical Support & Electrical Authority to lead its UK-based technical support team and provide technical leadership across its European operations.

This is a senior, remote-based position combining team leadership, engineering governance, electrical safety management and technical support for complex critical power projects.

You will act as a technical authority for the business, ensuring that engineered solutions are safe, compliant, commercially robust and operationally deliverable.

You will work closely with Sales, Operations, Engineering, Commercial and Project Management teams, supporting projects across data centres, utilities, power generation, renewable energy, infrastructure and other mission-critical environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and support the UK technical support team.
  • Act as a senior technical authority for critical power operations across the UK and Europe.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, technical policies and design governance.
  • Provide technical oversight from initial concept and tender support through to commissioning and handover.
  • Lead technical reviews for major bids, tenders and complex projects.
  • Review and approve system designs, technical proposals, equipment selections, calculations and engineering documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance during installations, commissioning, energisation and fault investigations.
  • Lead High Voltage safety governance and oversee the organisation’s HVAP framework.
  • Develop and maintain High Voltage Safety Rules, switching procedures, permit-to-work documentation and isolation plans.
  • Provide technical authority for the commissioning and energisation of HV and LV systems.
  • Ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations and other relevant electrical safety requirements.
  • Manage relationships with DNOs, IDNOs, ICPs, utility providers, manufacturers and customer electrical authorities.
  • Conduct technical audits, risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Develop technical competency frameworks and training programmes.
  • Mentor engineers and support succession planning within the technical function.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to product development and investment decisions.

About you

You will be an experienced electrical engineering leader with a strong background in critical power, power generation, data centres, utilities or electrical infrastructure.

You should have

  • A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading an engineering, technical services or technical support team.
  • Strong knowledge of LV and HV electrical systems.
  • Experience with critical power equipment such as UPS systems, generators, loadbanks, synchronisation systems, power distribution or battery energy storage systems.
  • AP, SAP or HVAP experience, qualification or authorisation.
  • Experience supporting complex project delivery, commissioning and technical sales.
  • A strong understanding of engineering governance, electrical safety, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to work remotely while travelling regularly across the UK and Europe.

Chartered Engineer status, European operational experience and a background in mission-critical or data centre environments would be advantageous.
