The Opportunity for a Chartered Health and Safety Manager. Hinkley Point C (HPC) is delivering two new nuclear reactors — the first of a new generation of UK nuclear power stations, providing low-carbon electricity to around six million homes. We are seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety Manager to join the Site Construction leadership team. Reporting directly to the Head of Construction Health & Safety, you will play a critical role in shaping, leading, and embedding a world-class health, safety and wellbeing culture across one of Europe’s largest and most complex construction projects. This is a high-impact leadership role, working closely with Tier 1 contractors, internal teams, regulators, and senior stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and set new standards for safety excellence in the nuclear sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as deputy to the Head of Construction Health & Safety, leading departmental activity and priorities
- Provide visible, credible leadership across site, engaging operatives through to senior executives
- Oversee Principal Contractor arrangements aligned to evolving site risk profiles
- Drive continuous improvement programmes and consistent safety messaging across contractors
- Coach and influence senior leaders to strengthen safety culture and behaviours
- Manage relationships with regulators
- Support emergency response planning, assurance activities, and departmental budgets
- Lead, develop, and empower a high-performing health & safety team
- Promote a strong nuclear safety culture aligned to licence conditions and best practice
About You
This role suits an experienced health & safety leader ready for a step into a major, capital-intensive organisation. You will bring:
- Proven experience on large or medium-scale construction projects, ideally within EPC environments
- Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations, nuclear regulatory frameworks, and complex compliance environments
- Ability to influence and build trust across a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience engaging with regulators and senior leadership teams
- A pragmatic, collaborative, and emotionally intelligent leadership style
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
- Chartered Member of a recognised H&S body (or working towards)
- Strong background in behavioural safety and safety culture improvement
- Experience managing teams in high-risk, highly regulated environments
Additional Information
- Contractual location: Hinkley Point C
- Minimum 4 days per week on site
- Must meet UK Security Vetting requirements (typically 3 of the last 5 years UK residency)
