At Holford Gas Storage, you’ll join a highly skilled engineering team at a modern, highly automated UK critical-infrastructure site. This hands‑on role brings together control and instrumentation engineering, industrial automation and operational technology cyber security—helping to keep an important part of the UK energy portfolio reliable and secure.
What you’ll do
Support the Lead C&I Engineer in delivering the site’s Control and Instrumentation Maintenance and Engineering Strategy.
Support the OT Security Engineer with the technical delivery of OT maintenance for cyber-security risk mitigation.
Investigate and resolve emerging issues affecting field instruments and control equipment.
Carry out approved routine OT cyber-security maintenance, including patching support, antivirus updates, application‑control support, and maintenance of OT asset inventories, network diagrams and records.
Prepare maintenance orders for on‑site work and deliver defined packages of work within your areas of competence.
Support the operation and upkeep of OT security controls and infrastructure, including corrective actions arising from assessments, audits or engineering decisions.
Provide technical assistance during OT cyber incidents, OT‑related incidents and fault investigations through information gathering, directed checks and corrective action.
What you’ll bring
A technical apprenticeship with a Level 3 qualification, or equivalent qualifications and experience, in cyber security, control engineering or automation engineering.
Proven maintenance experience in control and instrumentation or industrial automation.
Practical understanding of sensors, actuators and signal‑conditioning equipment.
Working knowledge of Distributed Control Systems, process‑control concepts and philosophies, and OT security principles.
Basic awareness of common OT cyber‑security controls—such as network segmentation, access control, patching and logging—and how they are applied in industrial environments.
The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation, including P&IDs, panel schematics, logic diagrams, loop drawings, and cause‑and‑effect charts.
The ability to read and interpret PLC logic in various languages.
A basic understanding of cyber‑security principles and standards, such as IEC 62443 and the ISO 2700x family, with an appetite to develop further.
Experience troubleshooting DCS or PLC systems—ideally ABB 800xA.
Understanding of functional safety and DSEAR topics.
An understanding of the health, safety and environmental aspects of managing external service‑provider activities.
CompEx Modules 1–4 and/or a functional‑safety qualification.
