About the Role
This Senior Sales Manager role is focused on driving new business growth across the UK and Europe within the custom automation and system integration space. You will act as the commercial and technical partner to customers, identifying opportunities, shaping automation concepts, and delivering tailored solutions. This is a high-impact, customer-facing role requiring a strong hunting mentality, deep technical understanding, and the ability to navigate complex automation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive new business through proactive outreach, site visits, networking, and customer engagement.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships and act as a technical–commercial partner to customers.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and Build teams to shape bespoke automation solutions.
- Lead in-depth discussions to understand customer challenges and qualify opportunities.
- Prepare and present accurate, competitive proposals.
- Lead commercial negotiations and ensure seamless handovers into project delivery.
- Upsell and cross-sell additional solutions and services during customer visits.
- Represent the company at customer sites, industry events, and trade shows.
- Provide market insights to help shape sales strategy and future offerings.
- Deliver approximately £10–20M in annual sales across key automation markets.
Requirements:
- 5–10+ years' experience in automation, preferably machine building or custom automation solutions.
- Strong technical sales background with deep knowledge of manufacturing integration.
- Proven success in hunting, winning, and developing new business.
- Experience selling custom automation projects of £2M+ for system integrators.
- Consistent record of achieving or exceeding annual sales targets.
- Strong communication, commercial negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
