We are seeking an enthusiastic Principal Civil Engineer to lead and deliver a range of environmental improvements, river restoration projects, flood risk, infrastructure and energy schemes across the UK.
You will be joining an award-winning environmental and engineering consultancy which puts innovation, sustainability and resilience at the heart of its work. The role involves leading our growing civils team in Newcastle whilst working with multidisciplinary teams including coastal modellers, reservoir engineers, geotechnical engineers, landscape architects and geomorphologists. You will lead these teams in delivery of flood risk management schemes, nature-based solutions, river restoration, natural flood management projects, renewable energy schemes and improvements and repairs to reservoirs. You will also represent the Newcastle civils team within the wider Scotland and Northern England engineering group, collaborating with teams in Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well across other JBA offices as required.
This varied and exciting role will involve delivery leadership, governance and technical input on a variety of appraisal, design and construction projects. You will work in a fast-paced environment, with a range of public, private and third sector clients including SEPA, the Environment Agency, Network Rail, highways authorities, water companies, lead local flood authorities, rivers and wildlife trusts. You will also be involved with and lead work winning efforts to further grow our range of projects and client base.
The right person will be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) ideally with the ICE and be keen to mentor and support junior staff as they work through our ICE accredited training schemes. A full UK driving licence is required for this role. We are looking for well organised, motivated, enthusiastic, flexible individuals who can lead an engineering team and manage a multi-disciplinary team on the delivery of projects. Essential attributes for the role include:
- Technical leadership and management of the design process to develop sustainable and resilient solutions that meet client needs.
- Championing technical innovation to improve efficiency and quality of delivery, ensuring uptake of latest developments in digital design tools.
- Managing, developing and mentoring junior members of staff.
- Building positive relationships with clients, colleagues and key stakeholders.
- End to end project management, including contracts, budgetary control, programmes, change and risk management.
- Development and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams and subcontractors.
- Leading Safety in Design (CDM) and compliance with environmental legislation.
- Experienced in design relating to earthworks, drainage design, retaining walls and headwalls.
- The ability to undertake site visits in various areas of the UK, including overnight stays.
Experience in the following areas will be beneficial:
- Works falling under the Reservoirs Act.
- Energy sector projects including sub-stations, buried cables and battery storage.
- Design and management of flood protection schemes.
- Scour assessments for highways and rail structures.
- Natural flood management and sustainable urban drainage systems.
- Experienced in the use of the NEC4 suite of contracts.
- Hydraulic modelling and Flood Risk Assessment.
The role will be located at our Newcastle, NE1 5JE office which can be found on the 4th floor of the modern and contemporary Maybrook House.
