Main purpose and scope of job
The Site Manager is responsible for the health and safety of all staff, contractors to site and visitors to site, the minimisation of impact to the environment whilst operating the site, delivering customer expectations in terms of service and product quality, and operating the site in an efficient and effective manner in line with the annual budget. To develop, manage and control the site's operations to achieve agreed revenue and profit targets, through efficient operating practices and excellent customer service. To manage and organise the efficient and safe handling of waste material, the adoption of best practice principles and the control of operational costs within/below budget.

Duties and key responsibilities – Health and safety
- Responsible for his/her personal safety, including others who may be affected by the maintenance department activities.
- Understand and implement the company SHEQ Policy.
- Conduct Risk Assessments on activities within their site(s) ensuring that the methods and systems of work are safe.
- Provide written instructions of work methods outlining potential hazards and precautions, and ensure they are complied with.
- Ensure accident/incident and near-miss reporting procedures are understood and complied with.
- Ensure all employees and sub-contractors are suitably trained/competent to carry out the prescribed task.
- Ensure the Statutory Notices, the Integrated Management Systems Policy, Insurance Certificate and the names of Appointed First Aiders are displayed and maintained in prominent locations.
- Ensure that, where obligated, the Environment Permit is adhered to.
- Reprimand any employee for failing to discharge their health and safety and environmental responsibilities.
- Ensure contractual obligations for service and product quality are met.
Duties and key responsibilities – Operational
- To implement the Group's Health and Safety Policy, SHE Manual and statutory regulations on Site.
- Monitor and control the waste operations to ensure the achievement of budgeted revenue, operating profit and cash targets.
- To manage and control all capital and provisions expenditure on the site.
- To carry out regular inspections of the security of the Sites and take remedial action where necessary.
- To ensure that the Site is operated in compliance with all relevant Company and statutory environmental requirements.
- To maintain day-to-day contact with the Environment Agency and undertake regular liaison meetings.
- To ensure that operational activities and maintenance are carried out within budgeted levels of expenditure.
- To control the repair and maintenance procedures of equipment on-site.
- To participate in the preparation of forecasts and budgets.
- To ensure the accuracy of inputted information from the Weighbridge for invoicing purposes.
- To ensure that the necessary complement of well-trained and motivated staff is regularly in attendance.
- To provide training to ensure that the site operatives possess the necessary range of skills.
- To ensure that flexible working arrangements are in operation.
- To ensure that disciplinary matters are dealt with firmly and fairly.
- To discuss with employees matters affecting efficiency and productivity.
- To protect the reputation of the Company in the community.
- To liaise with customers to ensure their needs are met on site.
Experience
- Educated to at least A level standard; ideally a graduate in business or environmental disciplines.
- Knowledge of Environmental Permitting.
- Strong reputation for consistent delivery of projects on time and to budget.
- Successful in managing a similar sized team of professionals.
- Operational and environmental management within a sector where compliance with regulatory controls is important.
- Well developed management skills and a track record of delivering to targets.
Essential Knowledge
- Previous management / supervisory role.
- Experience in managing a team.
- Experience in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
- Be computer literate.

Working hours
Tues day to Friday 7am - 6pm, though the site may on occasion open on a Monday or weekend if requested by the Council.
