Main purpose and scope of job: Electrical engineer works with the plant maintenance team covering four sites. Responsible for planned preventative and reactive maintenance, always adhering to strict health and safety procedures. Required to generate daily reports, weekly and monthly and document all work carried out in the maintenance system used.

Position within organisation: Reports to Maintenance Manager. Responsible for electrical maintenance planned and preventative. Budget Responsibilities include recording of parts used in general day-to-day completion of work.

Duties and key responsibilities – Health and safety:

  • Responsible for personal safety, including others who may be affected by the maintenance department activities.
  • Understand and implement the company Health and Safety Policy.
  • Be aware of their responsibility to comply with all company procedures.
  • Assist with Risk Assessments if required on activities within their electrical remit ensuring that the methods and systems of work are safe.
  • Assist with written instructions of work methods outlining potential hazards and precautions, and ensure they are complied with.
  • Ensure accident/incident and near-miss reporting procedures are understood and complied with and fully co-operate with accident investigations where appropriate.
  • Report any employee for failing to discharge their health and safety and environmental responsibilities.
  • Set a personal example with regard to health & safety behaviours.

Duties and key responsibilities - Operational:

  • Reporting to the Maintenance manager you will be responsible for ensuring the plants are maintained to achieve the required plant runtime.
  • Ensuring that all the planned weekly preventative maintenance shift for each site and plant is carried out to specification.
  • Work varies on a day-to-day basis but includes fault finding, fault diagnosing, testing and repair of electrical equipment, static and mobile plant.
  • Plan and complete preventative maintenance for each site within agreed timeframes.
  • Agree and maintain part stock of essentials parts as well as adhering to the department budget with the aid of order numbers and spend controls.
  • Complete project and installation work to improve efficiency and safety of all sites.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation and develop technical knowledge.
  • Read and understand schematic and wiring diagrams.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of Electricity Regulations, Safe Systems of work, Safety Rules and Permit for Work Systems.
  • Minimum of apprentice trained or equivalent, City and Guilds level 3, or NVQ level 3, 18th Edition, BS 7671 qualified.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in electrical maintenance function.
  • IOSH desirable.
  • Experience of working in a technically challenging and value driven culture.
  • Computer literate.

  • The ability to communicate and influence effectively, and work collaboratively, at all levels.

Additional information:

  • Salary depending on experience Β£48,000- Β£53,000.
  • 20 days holiday.
  • On call when required to be paid a minimum of 4 hours.

Working hours:

  • Two week shift pattern (12 hour shift):
  • Two weeks – Days Week 1 36 hrs Week 2 48 hrs.
