We are seeking a trainee estimator who is eager to learn and develop within a successful estimating team. In this role, you will support the delivery of major Mechanical or Electrical construction projects and be based at our Solent head office in Fareham. You will support the team in meeting both operational and financial goals, while learning how to contribute to a collaborative working environment throughout the project’s lifecycle. Your role will help ensure that the project meets the high standards and expectations of the client.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates for electrical projects, learning how to account for labour, materials, and subcontractor costs.
  • Support the review of drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand the project scope.
  • Help liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to gather pricing information and learn about rate negotiation.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure estimates align with technical and project requirements.
  • Begin to identify potential risks, savings opportunities, and value engineering options with guidance from senior team members.
  • Contribute to tender submissions and support the smooth handover of information to project delivery teams.

Skills & Experience:

  • Some experience or a strong interest in estimating within the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) industry.
  • Basic understanding of M&E systems, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Ability to learn how to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills, with a keen willingness to develop further.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to assist in negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative project team.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
