The Director, Head of Clinical Data Analytics is a strategic and functional leadership role within the Integrated Data Analytics and Statistical Programming (IDASP) department. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Head of Integrated Data Analytics & Statistical Programming, this individual is responsible for leading, defining, and driving the enterprise-wide clinical data analytics and data visualization capabilities at Jazz. The primary focus of this role is to transform multi-source clinical trial data into dynamic, intuitive visual intelligence and self-service analytics suites that empower Clinical Development teams. The Director oversees the development and delivery of interactive tools supporting medical monitoring, safety surveillance, patient profiling, ongoing study surveillance, and clinical operational oversight across our Neuroscience and Oncology pipelines. This leader manages a dedicated team of analytics and visualization professionals, ensuring robust collaboration with Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs, Biostatistics, and Clinical Data Management to accelerate insights and drive data-informed decision-making.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Capability Building: Establish, drive, and execute the functional vision and roadmap for clinical data analytics and data visualization across global development programs. Lead, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing team of clinical data analysts and visual analytics programmers within the IDASP organization, fostering a culture of innovation, technical rigor, and collaboration. Serve as the internal champion and subject matter expert for self-service analytics, modern visual frameworks, and interactive exploratory tools across Jazz Clinical Development.
  • Study Monitoring, Medical Surveillance & Exploratory Analytics: Lead the architecture, deployment, and ongoing enhancement of interactive patient profile viewers, safety signal surveillance interfaces, and cross-study medical monitoring suites. Direct the development of dynamic study monitoring views that track real-time clinical parameters, adverse events of special interest, laboratory anomalies, query resolution trajectories, and subject disposition. Partner closely with Study Teams, Clinical Scientists, and Clinical Operations Leads to translate complex clinical questions into elegant, reliable, and user-friendly visual solutions. Support study-level data cleaning campaigns and review milestones to expedite database locks and preserve continuous inspection readiness.
  • Visualization Architecture & Technical Delivery: Oversee the technical strategy, design standards, and lifecycle management for enterprise visual analytics environments (e.g., Spotfire, R/Shiny, Tableau, Power BI). Collaborate with statistical programming peers and clinical data management to ingest, transform, and map disparate data sources—including EDC, central labs, biomarkers, and CDISC SDTM/ADaM datasets—into highly performant analytical views. Establish standardized visual libraries, reusable templates, and automated data refresh mechanisms to maximize efficiency across Phase I–IV clinical studies.
  • Quality, Governance & Cross-Functional Partnership: Define standard operating procedures, documentation standards, and user validation frameworks for visual analytics deliverables to ensure data veracity and compliance with Jazz quality guidelines. Evaluate emerging visualization platforms and analytical tools; oversee external vendors and CRO partners delivering dashboard and analytics assets to ensure alignment with internal technical and architectural standards. Represent IDASP in cross-functional forums, study team reviews, and strategic technology steering committees.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Clinical Analytics & Visualization Mastery: Proven expertise designing and delivering interactive clinical data dashboards and analytics solutions (e.g., TIBCO Spotfire, R/Shiny, Tableau, Power BI) specifically tailored for medical monitoring, safety reviews, or study execution.
  • Data & Programming Competency: Strong proficiency in programming languages and tools used for clinical data wrangling and visualization, such as R, SAS, Python, or SQL.
  • Clinical Data Knowledge: Thorough understanding of clinical trial workflows, phases (Phase I–IV), data streams (EDC, eCOA/ePRO, lab data, biomarkers), and foundational clinical data structures (CDISC SDTM and ADaM).
  • People Leadership: Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and leading technical teams within a biopharmaceutical or clinical research organization.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and storytelling abilities, with a proven track record of bridging technical programming concepts with clinical and medical user needs.
  • Commitment to Quality: Thorough knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), 21 CFR Part 11 requirements, and quality control procedures for analytical and reporting outputs.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative life sciences discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or CRO industry, with at least 5 years in a dedicated people management and functional leadership role within clinical analytics or statistical programming.
  • Direct experience implementing centralized clinical trial monitoring dashboards, patient profile viewers, or safety surveillance tools in support of global clinical trials.
