The Role
This is an exciting role that will work closely with our senior management team to drive and implement strategic initiatives and ensure the effective and efficient management of our expanding and dynamic global commodities business. The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in business management and operations, solving complex problems in a fast‑paced environment and playing a pivotal role in shaping the future growth of Javelin. Our candidate would also ideally have strong commodities experience, good knowledge of trading businesses, and is able to apply their existing knowledge and skills at the outset across multiple commodities, functions and business lines.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate with senior management to lead and drive the execution of strategy and business plans
- Project management of strategic business initiatives and new business development (e.g. new geographical locations, new products, complex and/or structured transactions)
- Oversight of budgets, cost allocations and corporate / business expenses
- Management of external relationships for key business publications and subscriptions and negotiation of contracts as necessary
- Proactive risk management and mitigation including oversight of our internal controls framework
- Generate recommendations and manage the implementation of key process improvements, collaborating with global teams to drive scalability and efficiency of business operations
- Partner with legal and compliance to write new corporate policies, maintain existing policies and support compliance of all policies
- Support of the global insurance programme by providing business analytics and data to insurers
- Ownership of management reporting and presentations, including Board and Risk Committee reports
- Facilitate formal and informal communication across the global teams as appropriate
Skills and Experience Required:
- 7+ years’ experience in a trading business with a strong understanding of commodities
- Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills and ability to interact with global stakeholders and senior management effectively
- Ability to build consensus across the global team at all levels to drive change and efficiency
- Analytical and detail‑orientated
- Excellent problem‑solving ability
- Demonstrable experience utilising commercial acumen to proactively respond to business needs in a timely manner
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a strong ability to multi‑task and manage competing priorities
- Willingness and motivation to learn whilst maintaining confidence in dealing with matters with no prior experience
- Discretion is of the utmost importance. Must have the ability to manage sensitive or highly confidential matters appropriately
