The role

We’re looking for an Employee Engagement Manager to help shape a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace across our manufacturing sites. With the majority of our employees working in factory and shift-based roles, this position is all about making engagement real, visible, and meaningful—not just a head-office initiative.

You’ll design and deliver engagement strategies that reflect the realities of a production environment, strengthen communication, reinforce our culture, and help ensure our people feel valued, listened to, and proud of where they work.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Employee Engagement & Listening
    • Design, launch, and manage employee engagement surveys and pulse checks across factory and non-factory employees
    • Analyse results, identify trends, and translate insights into practical, site-level actions
    • Partner with leaders and site managers to close the feedback loop and communicate outcomes clearly
  • Culture & Communication
    • Drive company culture initiatives that align with our values and resonate with a diverse, frontline workforce
    • Develop simple, effective communication strategies for factory environments (toolbox talks, noticeboards, briefings, digital screens, etc.)
    • Support leaders in building trust, visibility, and connection with team
  • Benefits & Recognition
    • Review and continuously improve employee benefits to ensure they are competitive, relevant, and well understood
    • Lead recognition programs including long service awards, milestone celebrations, and site-based recognition initiatives
    • Ensure recognition programs are inclusive, consistent, and meaningful for shift and production workers
  • Manager & Leader Support
    • Coach and support line managers on engagement best practices, employee feedback, and communication
    • Provide guidance on improving team morale, retention, and engagement at site level
  • Retention & Experience
    • Identify engagement-related drivers of turnover and absenteeism and recommend improvement strategies
    • Support onboarding and induction experiences to ensure new employees feel welcomed, informed, and connected from day one
  • Continuous Improvement & Reporting
    • Track engagement metrics and report regularly to HR and senior leadership
    • Benchmark engagement practices and recommend new initiatives as the business grows

About Us

At Geary’s Bakeries, we’re on a crusade to make proper bread more accessible to more people. We’re passionate about re-imagining the way Great Britain thinks about their everyday loaf. This passion is at the heart of everything we do, and have done, since 1906.

We are ‘born and bread’ in Leicestershire and proud of our long-standing heritage. Today, we operate from three sites on a 24/7 operation. We’re made up of over 1000 people: a friendly, diverse and outgoing team, passionate about making a difference to the bakery industry.

The business has grown rapidly from £5m in annual sales to £125m+ in the last 15 years with strong and consistent profitability. We have an ambition to increase sales to more than £200m+ in the next 3-5 years. A clear vision and strategy has been articulated, and this is being backed with major capital investment and a renewal and upgrading of the people, processes, and systems.

Our brilliant benefits include free delicious bread, BUPA Cashback Plan, Death In Service, a Cycle to Work scheme and a chance to win £10k worth prizes annually! Plus, if you refer a friend to join our team, you could earn up to £500!

About You:

At Geary’s, we look for people who show up every day to do their best. We’re a passionate, friendly team and look for the same qualities in our new recruits. We firmly believe your attitude and approach is just as important (if not, more so) than the skills and experience on your CV.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in employee engagement, people & culture, HR, or internal communications—ideally within manufacturing, FMCG, or a blue-collar workforce
  • Strong understanding of frontline and shift-based employee needs
  • Confident working on the factory floor and building relationships with site leaders and employees
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to turn survey insights into real action
  • Excellent communication skills—able to engage employees at all levels and across different formats
  • Practical, hands-on, and comfortable balancing strategy with day-to-day execution

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK, at point of interview, and for the tenure of employment contract. As part of the recruitment process, you will be asked to provide documented evidence of your eligibility to work in the UK.

If you have not heard from us within seven days, unfortunately you have not been successful on this occasion, but we wish you every success in your search for a new position.
