ROLE OVERVIEW

This is a deep, hands-on network engineering role, not an infrastructure or cloud IT role. Our client, one of the UK's most established communications and technology businesses, is looking for a CCNP level Cisco network engineer to become the technical authority on a live, business-critical managed service running 24x7x365 for a high-profile UK enterprise customer. You'll lead the troubleshooting on the toughest incidents on complex data networks, lead the room when P1s hit, and own the customer relationship face-to-face, including the difficult conversations when things go wrong. This isn't a NOC ticket-queue job, and it isn't a step away from the tools into management. It's the blend in between: 3rd line depth, P1 leadership, and customer ownership. Cisco network engineering is the non-negotiable baseline; Aruba is a growing part of the estate and full training will be provided. If you're a hands-on CCNP engineer ready to be the authority on a service, this is worth a conversation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead hands-on technical troubleshooting of complex incidents on live data networks, routing and switching.
  • Own the technical health of the live service end to end, ensuring changes, incidents and improvements protect customer outcomes.
  • Lead P1 and major incidents to resolution, coordinating multiple teams and challenging delays or unclear ownership.
  • Assess complex in-life changes and represent the technical position confidently at change boards.
  • Act as the main technical point of contact, building trusted face-to-face relationships with the customer, suppliers and internal teams.
  • Actively manage the technical estate, identifying capacity limits, end-of-life risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Challenge current designs and propose improvements that increase performance and resilience.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Strong, current, hands-on Cisco network engineering: CCNP-level routing and switching (or demonstrable equivalent depth), with recent troubleshooting of complex incidents on live networks.
  • Proven experience technically supporting a 24/7 live managed customer solution, working with third parties and suppliers.
  • Comfortable leading P1 situations: calm, authoritative and decisive.
  • Credible in front of senior customer stakeholders, navigating difficult conversations without losing the relationship.
  • Strong working knowledge of ITIL practices.
  • Ability to obtain and hold all required clearances (SC, NPPV, etc.).

DESIRABLE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL

  • Aruba, or complementary technologies (Juniper, Fortinet, SD-WAN).
  • Automation and observability: tooling, dashboards, alert tuning, runbooks.
  • Commercial awareness of SLAs, OLAs and service obligations.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

One of the UK's most established communications and technology businesses, serving enterprise and public-sector customers with mission-critical networks and managed services. It invests heavily in research and development, career development and world-class training: the kind of environment that accelerates a technical career.

BENEFITS

  • 10% on-target annual bonus.
  • 10% company pension scheme.
  • Company share saving schemes.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service.
  • World-class training and development opportunities.
  • Wide range of flexible benefits.
  • Hybrid working: 3 days on site, 2 days remote.
