Applications are invited from committed and experienced Registered Learning Disabilities Nurses to join the Therapy & Enabling (Day Service) and Short Breaks team as Band 6 Deputy Manager within the Adult Learning Disabilities Service on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.

Short Breaks and Emergency care provide 24/7 support within 3 self-contained respite flats for adults with learning disabilities, complex needs, and autism.

Therapy and Enabling, including a drop-in service, runs Monday to Friday and currently has approximately 40 service users. The service aims to provide a wide range of structured activities and therapies.

The team comprises a Manager (Band 7), 2 Deputy Managers (Band 6), and 5 Team Leaders (Band 5). As a leadership team, you will provide practice leadership and deliver excellent person-centred outcomes, supporting a diverse team of HCAs/Band 3 and 4 Support Workers.

As Deputy Manager, supporting the Service Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Undertaking the assessment of service users with complex needs.
  2. Guiding, advising, and directing staff in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  3. Contributing to the recruitment and retention of team members.
  4. Undertaking professional development reviews and supporting staff with performance issues.
  5. Acting as a professional role model, promoting high standards of practice and professional values.
  6. Acting up as necessary in the absence of the manager.

Please note: Guernsey has adopted the AfC banding system but applies its own salary scale. The Guernsey Band 6 salary range is £46,152 to £62,310 plus an annual bonus of £1,605 and higher unsocial hours enhancements (36% evening/Saturday and 72% Sunday/Bank Holidays). Annual leave starts at 36 days, up to 42 days, with full credit for NHS or Local Authority service for annual leave and sick leave.

Person requirements:

  • Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse with full NMC registration.
  • Two years of current or recent post-graduate experience at senior Band 5 or Band 6-equivalent level.
  • UK driving licence.
