Applications are invited from suitably experienced senior Speech & Language Therapists to lead the Adult Acute and Community service in a Band 8A Lead post on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.

The SLT team comprises a Band 8A Clinical Lead, a Band 7 Specialist post (who will deputise), a Band 6 SLT, and a Band 3 Assistant.

You will be responsible for managing the island-wide Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service in both the Acute Hospital and Community settings. Your role will include providing management, leadership, supervision, professional consultation, guidance, and advice to staff within this service.

In collaboration with key stakeholders, the postholder will work to:

  1. Lead, plan, develop, and deliver a high-quality SLT Service that is well integrated with other professional services and reflects local needs;
  2. Ensure appropriate financial control;
  3. Promote governance and best practice principles in the delivery of the SLT Service.

The Adult SLT Service is small; whilst sufficient time will be allocated to management duties, you will also manage a caseload of patients with complex and highly complex needs.

Please note: Guernsey has adopted the AfC banding system but has its own salary scale. The current Band 8A salary range is £70,723 to £86,357, plus an annual bonus of £1,605. Annual leave starts at 36 days up to 42 days, with full credit for NHS service for annual and sick leave.

Person requirements:

  • Speech & Language Therapist with full HCPC registration and membership with the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
  • Five years post-registration experience, with current or recent experience at Band 7 or equivalent level
  • Motivated, demonstrating a positive attitude and enthusiasm, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage conflict and work under pressure.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience managing teams
  • A postgraduate dysphagia training qualification
