Job purpose

The Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting open-source research across countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and help to update our foundational country profiles that cover the Political, Military, Economic, Social, Information, and Infrastructure (PMESII) areas.

The analyst will also monitor and research domestic and external risks that threaten these countries’ national security and stability and help produce intelligence reports on high priority risks.

How you will contribute at Janes

  • Conduct extensive open-source research in the field of national security and research risks to state stability within the Political, Military, Economic, Social, Information, and Infrastructure (PMESII) spheres.
  • Update our foundational intelligence products and be engaged in current intelligence research on areas of high priority.
  • Work with our Janes Events Team and assist the collection of data related to terrorism and to PMESII events.
  • Pro-actively undertake individual research projects that help contribute to our risk products.

The ideal skills and experience for this role

  • Comprehensive understanding of national security and geopolitical dynamics.
  • Strong OSINT collection skills to identify key indicators in complex geopolitical situations.
  • Proficiency in collecting and analysing data from open sources.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and identifying potential risk.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Delivering projects within tight time constraints.
  • MENA-region knowledge related to the identified areas.
  • A strong data analysis-oriented mindset.
  • Computer competency that includes a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point applications as well as an ability to conduct online and electronic research.
  • English language skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language like Arabic is not required but is advantageous.
