The Kitchen Porter plays a vital role in supporting the kitchen operation by maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness, organisation, and safety across all kitchen areas. Working within the Kitchen Porter team, ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and safely, enabling the culinary team to deliver great food consistently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain exceptional cleanliness of kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils to the highest standards
  • Coordinate washing of pots, pans, and equipment during and after service
  • Ensure the plate and pot wash areas function to high standards as required at all times
  • Support and maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and upkeep of all equipment
  • Support basic prep tasks when required and coordinate team support during busy periods
  • Ensure waste and recycling are handled correctly and efficiently
  • Monitor and report equipment maintenance needs
  • Support the kitchen team during busy periods and maintain workflow efficiency
  • Demonstrate efficient timekeeping, presentation and workflow as a role model for the team
  • Understand assigned task standards set out by Head Chef and company procedures and ensure team compliance

Standards and Professional Conduct

  • Follow all health and safety and food hygiene procedures and ensure team compliance
  • Have a thorough understanding of and adhere to Jamie's Italian regulations, in particular the policies and procedures relating to fire, hygiene, food safety and COSHH
  • Represent the company's high standards of personal presentation and behaviour at all times during a shift
  • Provide a friendly, courteous and professional service at all times
  • Report for duty punctually, wearing the correct uniform at all times, maintaining the highest standard in hygiene and grooming
  • Maintain good working relationships with colleagues and all departments
  • Contribute to the building of the team and efficient team spirit as well as having an active interest in employees' welfare, safety and development
  • Be flexible and extend job duties to carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the job capacity as assigned, including redeployment to alternative departments if required, to meet business demands
  • Attend meetings and training as and when required

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Kitchen Porter in a high-volume kitchen environment
  • Leadership experience or strong supervisory skills
  • Reliable and hard working with an exceptional work ethic
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment and able to lead others through busy periods
  • Excellent attention to cleanliness, safety and detail
  • Strong ability to work as part of a team and motivate others
  • Good understanding of COSHH, health & safety and chemical knowledge
  • Thorough understanding of plate and pot wash service area operations
  • Ability to train, coach and develop team members
  • Organisational skills with ability to manage schedules and coordinate team activities

Working Hours and Flexibility

Due to the nature of hospitality, this role requires flexibility. The Kitchen Porter will be required to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays in line with the business rota and operational needs.
