Head of Development in London

Job Description

A new opportunity has come up for a head of development to join a growing, successful legal software consultancy. This is a permanent position based in London. The main purpose of this role will be to lead the technology function, establish processes and help shape the firm's technical direction.

Main duties:

• Taking ownership of the technology function.
• Providing technical guidance and establishing engineering standards and coding practices.
• Leading modernisation of the existing application and database estate.
• Translating requirements into achievable development plans.
• Ensuring delivery risks are identified and managed.
• Overseeing delivery commitments and agile practices.
• Establishing appropriate governance for technical documentation and development tools.
• Managing development budgets and expenditure.
• Providing regular updates to management on engineering progress and delivery commitments.
• Communicating technical matters in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.
• Attending regular senior management meetings, representing the technology function.
• Assessing and challenging development approaches and decisions.

Skills and experience required:

• Demonstrable experience in a senior engineering leadership role.
• Strong experience in C#, , ASP, and SQL Server.
• Proven experience improving software engineering practices.
• Solid architectural and database design expertise.
• Excellent stakeholder management and presentation skills.
• Strong commercial awareness, experience of budget management and resource planning.
