We are working with a major UK transport and logistics business that is looking to appoint an experienced Interim Commercial Legal Counsel to its well-regarded in-house legal team on a fixed-term contract. The role is to start ASAP and will run for 7-8 months, with the possibility of extension.

The position will be based in London, with a requirement to spend a minimum of 3 days per week in the London office. This is a broad commercial role within a busy and supportive legal function, reporting into the General Counsel.

The successful lawyer will take responsibility for drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements, with a particular focus on working closely with the procurement function on supply and procurement contracts. Given the nature and scale of the organisation, the role will also offer exposure to a diverse range of legal and commercial matters. These may include regulatory issues, health and safety, environmental matters, employment and TUPE, disputes and wider commercial projects.

The lawyer will work closely with stakeholders across the business, providing pragmatic and commercially focused advice and developing strong relationships as a trusted legal adviser. The legal team supports a significant UK operational footprint within the transport and logistics sector, making this an interesting opportunity for a commercial lawyer looking for a varied in-house position.

The successful lawyer is likely to have upwards of 5 years' PQE, with strong commercial contracts experience and the confidence to manage matters with a good degree of autonomy. A solid grounding from a highly regarded law firm would be particularly attractive, while previous in-house or client secondment experience would also be beneficial.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales, or another commonwealth jurisdiction
  • Upwards of 5 years' PQE in advising on commercial contracts, particularly drafting and negotiation
  • Experience advising on supply and/or procurement agreements
  • High-quality legal training gained within a well-regarded law firm
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide clear, practical advice
  • The confidence to deal with a broad range of miscellaneous legal issues and prioritise effectively within a busy environment
  • A positive, flexible and collaborative approach, with a willingness to get stuck in
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across a business
  • The ability to start a new role immediately or at short notice
  • Capacity to commit to a Fixed Term Contract of 7-8 months in duration

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and highly regarded in-house legal team within a major UK transport and logistics organisation, taking on a varied commercial workload and working closely with stakeholders across the business.
