We are currently working with a fast-growing renewable energy infrastructure business that is seeking to appoint an Interim Senior Legal Counsel on an initial 3-month fixed term contract. The role is to start ASAP and will facilitate a hybrid working arrangement, with a few days per week expected in their London office. Whilst the contract is for an initial 3 month duration, there is potential for further extension.

The organisation operates within the energy and infrastructure sector and develops, finances and operates private renewable energy projects for major enterprise customers across the UK. Their client base includes large-scale technology, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceutical and other blue-chip organisations.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, the successful individual will act as the principal legal advisor to the business during a critical period of growth and project delivery. The role will involve handling a broad range of commercial, projects, construction and corporate legal matters. Whilst external counsel support is available, the successful Lawyer will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, providing pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across the business.

Key responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
  • Advising on EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contracts
  • Negotiating operation and maintenance agreements
  • Reviewing and negotiating wider commercial contracts and NDAs
  • Supporting legal aspects of land and infrastructure development projects
  • Advising on contractual arrangements with EPC contractors and enterprise customers
  • Assisting with acquisition due diligence and strategic projects
  • Providing employment law support on routine employment-related matters
  • Advising on governance and general corporate legal issues
  • Managing relationships with external law firms and reviewing external legal advice

The successful individual is likely to possess upwards of 6 years' PQE and will have gained significant experience within the energy, infrastructure, projects or construction sectors. Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales or another commonwealth jurisdiction, with upwards of 6 years' PQE
  • Experience within the energy, infrastructure, projects or construction sectors
  • Strong drafting and negotiation experience across complex commercial contracts
  • Experience advising on PPAs, EPC contracts, related infrastructure documentation and broader commercial matters
  • The ability to operate autonomously and provide commercially pragmatic advice
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence dealing with senior leadership teams
  • A consultative yet robust approach, with the ability to navigate differing views across a business
  • Availability to commence a new assignment immediately or at short notice
