A highly regarded international law firm is seeking a Shipping Litigation Associate to join its established London-based marine practice. This opportunity sits within a market-leading team recognised for its expertise across the full spectrum of shipping, marine trade and energy matters, acting for an impressive client base throughout the global maritime sector. The team advises on a broad range of contentious shipping and international trade matters and is known for handling complex, high-value disputes with an international dimension. The role offers exposure to a diverse mix of work, combining traditional shipping litigation with commercial and advisory matters, providing an excellent platform for a lawyer looking to develop a well-rounded maritime practice. You will work with a wide range of industry participants, including shipowners, charterers, cargo interests, P&I Clubs, freight forwarders, ports, terminals and financial institutions. Matters regularly involve vessel arrests, recovery actions, charterparty and bill of lading disputes, Admiralty proceedings, international arbitration and Commercial Court litigation. The role will also provide involvement in marine casualty work, including collisions, groundings, fires, salvage and wreck removal matters, together with complex multi-party disputes and General Average claims. In addition, the team advises on commercial shipping contracts, vessel sale and purchase transactions, port and terminal operations, and emergency response situations where practical and commercially focused advice is essential. This position would suit a solicitor with between one and four years' post-qualification experience gained within a recognised shipping, marine or commercial disputes practice. Whilst previous maritime litigation experience is preferred, applications are welcomed from individuals who can demonstrate strong contentious experience, sound technical ability and a genuine interest in the shipping sector. The successful candidate will enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive and high-performing team while also being confident managing responsibilities independently. Strong communication skills, sound judgement, commercial awareness and the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment will be important. The firm is recognised for combining high-quality work with a progressive and flexible working culture. Lawyers are encouraged to take an active role in business development, client relationships and professional development, with access to structured training and genuine long-term career progression. The wider environment is collegiate, inclusive and supportive, making it an attractive destination for ambitious lawyers seeking both quality work and a sustainable career. For a confidential discussion or further information, please get in touch with James Wheelhouse, Associate Director.
