We have an exclusive mandate to seek an experienced private client lawyer to join the highly regarded private client team of a long-established, full-service London law firm. This is a key, strategic appointment within a well-established and growing team, offering exposure to a broad range of sophisticated, high-value and mainly domestic private client work. There may be the opportunity to also work on cross-border/international work.

The successful candidate will work alongside leading, experienced partners and other senior and junior lawyers in a collaborative, supportive environment, with genuine opportunities for progression.

The firm enjoys an excellent reputation for private client work and has built a loyal client base over many years. Unlike some firms in the market, it remains highly stable, independent and focused on long-term growth rather than external investment or private equity ownership. The culture is collaborative, supportive and partner-led, with genuine progression opportunities for ambitious lawyers who are looking to establish themselves for the long term.

This role will involve advising high and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families and trustees on a wide range of complex private client matters, with a particular emphasis on UK-based work, including:

  • Complex estate administration
  • Wills and succession planning
  • Trust creation, administration and taxation
  • Inheritance tax and wider private client tax planning
  • Court of Protection and related advisory work

The successful candidate will also supervise junior lawyers, play an active role in developing the practice and, for those interested, have the opportunity to take on wider management responsibilities as part of a clear long-term career path.

Applications are welcomed from lawyers who have:

  • c. 7 – 12+ years' PQE (exceptional candidates with 5+ years' PQE will also be considered)
  • Strong technical private client experience, including in domestic estate administration
  • The ability to manage complex matters with relatively minimal supervision
  • Some experience supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
  • A genuine interest in building a long-term career within a stable, collegiate firm

You will also, ideally, have STEP qualification and/or ATT/CTA qualification (or active progress towards qualification).

This role offers a competitive remuneration package including a comprehensive benefits package. The work/life balance is very good for a firm and team of this reputation. The team operates a flexible hybrid working policy, although lawyers are expected to spend the majority of the working week (typically four days) in the office.
