Employment Solicitor in Cheltenham

Cheltenham Full-Time No working from home possible

Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Employment Solicitor to join the established Cheltenham employment team of a highly regarded law firm.

\n

The practice undertakes a broad and sophisticated mix of contentious and non-contentious employment work, advising businesses and individuals on matters ranging from strategic HR issues and complex exits through to Employment Tribunal proceedings, workplace disputes and the employment aspects of corporate transactions.

\n

For an Associate at around 2-4 years' PQE, the breadth of the role is particularly attractive. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop across the full employment lifecycle rather than being channelled too early into a narrowly defined area of practice.

\n

The contentious work includes Employment Tribunal claims, with Associates involved in drafting pleadings, attending preliminary hearings and managing cases through the various stages of litigation. There is also exposure to more complex employment and related disputes, including restrictive covenant and confidentiality issues.

\n

On the advisory side, the team handles a varied workload encompassing employment documentation and policies, disciplinary and grievance matters, performance issues, redundancies, family-related employment matters, data protection and privacy issues, senior exits and wider strategic advice.

\n

Transactional employment work is another meaningful part of the practice. Associates work alongside colleagues on corporate matters, undertaking due diligence, identifying employment-related risks and advising on TUPE, warranties, indemnities and other issues arising from acquisitions, disposals and business transfers.

\n

The team has a diverse client base and the work is frequently commercially sensitive, requiring Associates to understand the wider context in which their advice is being given. There is good interaction with other practice areas and the opportunity to develop relationships with clients directly as experience and confidence increase.

\n

The environment is collaborative and supportive, while providing Associates with the opportunity to take genuine ownership of their work. At this level, the team is looking for someone who can increasingly manage matters independently while knowing when to involve more senior colleagues.

\n

The ideal candidate is likely to be around 2-4 years' PQE, with a solid grounding in employment law gained within a recognised practice. Experience of both contentious and non-contentious employment matters would be particularly useful, together with strong drafting skills and some familiarity with transactional support and TUPE.

\n

There is also an opportunity to become involved in the wider development of the practice, whether through client training, writing, networking or other business development activity. The emphasis is on developing well-rounded employment Lawyers who can build strong client relationships as their careers progress.

\n

The firm offers the quality and breadth of work associated with a substantial national and international practice, combined with the advantages of developing a career from its Cheltenham office. It should be particularly appealing to an Associate seeking sophisticated employment work, good responsibility and a credible long-term platform without needing to base their career in London.

\n

Hybrid working is available, although the team has a strong office presence and values the benefits of working together in person.

\n

For a confidential discussion about the role and the firm, please get in touch with James Wheelhouse, Associate Director.

Please note that where a level of preferred experience or qualification is indicated, this is a guideline only and does not preclude applications from candidates with more or less experience.\n

\n

Our consultants will review your application and assess your suitability. We endeavour to respond to all applications within 72 hours, however due to the volume of applications we receive we may not be able to respond to every candidate individually and would advise that if you do not hear from us you should assume you are not successful in your application.
