Permanent position, Westhill, Aberdeen

The Role

To provide engineering design solutions and through life engineering to support the JFD product range. Workload can vary from new product design to meet client or internal specifications, through to supporting an existing client’s request to upgrade or change equipment in the field.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering design input to new products and provide engineering support to the existing product range by assessing technical queries and providing engineering solutions.
  • Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
  • Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creation of part numbers and bill of materials.
  • Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports.
  • Checking detailed electrical drawings and documentation, adherence to engineering and company standards and processes and compliance to internal and external standards & regulations.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget.
  • Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as and when required.
  • Accountability and responsibility as technical checker of drawings and documentation generated in support of the electrical engineer role.

What We’re Looking For

You will need excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to work as part of a team but also in isolation when required. Organisational skills with good attention to detail. You will need to be methodical and thorough whilst generating and checking documentation and have the ability to adapt to changing scope or client demands. In addition, you will have a willingness to take ownership and accountability of tasks and drive to completion and be focused on delivering high quality output to tight deadlines and willing to go the extra mile to ensure success is achieved while being focused on delivering cost efficient solutions on time and on budget.

Key skills, knowledge and experience

  • Proven electrical and electronics design skills.
  • Skilled in generating design calculations.
  • Competent in the use of engineering design software tools / CAD packages.
  • Knowledge of design standards.
  • Previous product design experience would be advantageous, particularly DC systems.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages.
  • Electrical and Electronics engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV).
