About the Role

Mechanical Engineer – Permanent, Full-time – Inchinnan, Hybrid. Please note that this role requires security checks.

The Role

We’re looking for two mechanical engineers to deliver innovative design solutions and provide through‑life engineering support across the JFD product range. Your work will span everything from developing new products that meet client or internal specifications to supporting in‑service equipment upgrades and modifications. Experience with commercial or military diving equipment or dive systems is a strong advantage, and familiarity with submarines or submersibles would also be highly beneficial. Experience designing, surveying or constructing large steel structures and/or pressure vessels would be an advantage.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assess technical queries and provide engineering design for new products and support existing product range.
  • Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
  • Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creation of part numbers and bill of materials.
  • Creation and checking of engineering documentation such as manufacturing drawings, specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget.
  • Site visits to other JFD offices, client assets and suppliers as and when required.

What we’re looking for

  • Demonstrate experience in a similar role.
  • Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Skilled in generating design calculations.
  • Be able to work with DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
  • Manufacture of prototype components and take design from concept to validation.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
  • Good knowledge of gas and fluid systems.
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods and best practices.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of design standards and industry guidelines such as IMCA, ASME, PD5500 etc. is advantageous.
  • Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV) are advantageous.
  • Experience performing FEA structural analysis using appropriate software (ANSYS) advantageous.
  • Product design experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages is advantageous.
  • Previous underwater equipment design experience is advantageous.
