Materials Technologist Cockermouth About James Walker A private owned global manufacturing organization, supplying a vast range of high performance fluid sealing products and associated knowledge-based services to virtually every industry sector. With state-of-the-art skills in materials technology, particularly relating to elastomers, polymers, composites and engineering plastics plus extensive expertise in precision machining of exotic alloys for metallic seals, and tension control fasteners for bolted joints. Your Role James Walker has a fascinating opportunity for you to expand your career as a Materials Technologist in the world of materials science. As a Materials Technologist, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation, exploring the unique properties of materials and overcome challenges for our client’s needs. You will be in direct contact with clients delivering industry leading compound formulations and provide excellent technical guidance. Key Responsibilities Manage project work, liaising with departmental colleagues and other teams within technology Keep up to date with emerging materials and technologies Manage their own CPD, and assist with that of colleagues Liaise with customers and suppliers where appropriate, presenting a positive image of JW. Actively drive the development of new materials within the business Travel within the UK and overseas as necessary Prepare and present technical papers at conferences as opportunities arise Assist with preparation of promotional literature Prepare and run training sessions for JW colleagues and customers Provide technical support to customers and JW Group companies Prepare and review patent applications as appropriate Monitor and develop materials to meet appropriate customer, national and international standards (e.g. ISO, ASME, ISPE etc.) About you Essential Experience Hands on’ approach to problem solving Previous experience as a Technologist in a similar role Strong project leader and technical presentation skills. Proven record of success in managing development in this area of technology. Preferred Experience Knowledge of high performance elastomer compounding (FKM, HNBR, Silicone) Qualifications: Essential Experience Degree in Science based subject; other qualifications or relevant experience may be accepted at the discretion of the Materials Engineering Group Manager.
