The James Walker Strategic Business Unit (SBU) specialises in the provision of sealing solutions including elastomers, polymers, composites, engineering plastics, and high nickel alloys.
Your Role: The Manufacturing Industrialisation Engineer specialises in bridging the gap between product design and volume production, ensuring new products are manufactured efficiently, safely, and to quality standards. They define production processes, design tooling, and optimise assembly lines to ensure a "right first-time" ramp-up. Key roles include New Product Introduction (NPI), cost reduction, and process automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the New Product Introduction (NPI) process: Transitioning products from R&D to production, creating assembly instructions, and validating manufacturing processes.
- Statistical competence and the use of statistical tools.
- Process Optimisation: Using data to analyse cycle times, reduce waste, and improve efficiency using Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Tooling and Equipment: Designing, managing, and troubleshooting production tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Collaboration: Acting as a link between Design, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Shop Floor teams.
- Some technical expertise such as utilising CAD software and MS Office products.
- Experience/knowledge of automation to enhance production.
- Good understanding of quality tools and methods.
Typical working activities for the role include:
- Undertaking Design and Process FMEA and managing/implementing actions to reduce the RPN scores.
- Writing/creating process flow diagrams.
- Expediting manufacturing drawings.
- Updating existing SOPs and writing new SOPs for sub-tier controls.
- Detailing process parameters per operation.
- Setting up process sheets and inspection procedures.
- Tooling life management processes - asset identification, tool use, units made, dimensional reports.
- Process capability assessment and Gauge RR assessments.
- Producing engineering standard calculators for shrinkage, weights, lengths, number of parts per sheet.
- Key characteristics and control plans.
About you:
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of TRL and MRL levels.
- Knowledge of APQP and PPAP.
- Knowledge of CAD, Lean methodologies, and quality standards.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methods.
Essential Qualifications: Requires a degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
