Your Role
The Senior Shift Electrical Maintenance Technician is the lead electrical technical authority on shift, responsible for managing complex electrical and control system faults, coordinating electrical maintenance activity, and ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality engineering delivery. The postholder will provide advanced electrical and PLC diagnostic capability, mentor and guide Shift Technicians and Craftspersons, and support plant reliability and automation performance improvement. The role operates under site Electrical Safety Rules, with statutory authority retained by the Site Electrical Engineer (EDH / SAP).
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance
- Diagnose complex faults involving:
- Multi-layer PLC logic interaction
- Networked I/O and communication faults
- Drive and inverter issues
- Control circuit failures
- Machine safety interlocks
- Act as a role model for electrical safety compliance.
- Reinforce Electrical Safety Rules and LOTO discipline.
- Identify automation and electrical reliability weaknesses.
- Support improvement initiatives targeting:
- Repeat control faults
- Drive reliability
- Sensor and instrumentation issues

Essential Skill & Experience
- Extensive industrial electrical maintenance experience
- Proven complex fault diagnosis capability
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers
Preferred Qualifications
- HND in Electrical or Control Engineering
- Inspection & Testing qualification
- PLC platform training (Siemens / AB / Mitsubishi)
- Advanced drive systems training
Essential Qualifications
- Time-served electrical apprenticeship or Level 3 NVQ / City & Guilds (or equivalent) in Electrical engineering or instrumentation.
- HNC in Electrical engineering or instrumentation
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Demonstrable advanced diagnostic capability
