James Scott (Accounting) LLP are based in Oldham, Greater Manchester. The team that you will be joining currently stands at 10, working in a hybrid manner after an initial period of 3 months in the office.

We deal with a varied portfolio of SME clients ranging in size from £0 to £10m. With no specialism, we service with a wide range of sectors ensuring every day brings new challenges and rewards. No being siloed into a specialist department at James Scott.

Role Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting practice, with proficiency in cloud accounting software and excellent communication skills to develop client relationships.

This role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing insightful financial analysis to support decision-making.

We’re looking for someone who can make a real impact and potentially grow with us long term.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing annual accounts and corporation tax returns.
  • Preparing self assessment tax returns.
  • All of the above will be across a wide range of industries reflecting our diverse portfolio of clients.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an accountant in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in various cloud accounting software, including Xero and Dext.
  • Experience in financial management and reporting is essential.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

The deal

At James Scott you will receive:

  • A highly competitive salary between £28,000 and £33,000, dependant on experience.
  • 22 days holiday, plus bank holidays. With a structure rewarding longer term contribution which will lead to 25 days holiday.

Our needs

Our new team member will:

  • be AAT qualified however, if you have worked for over 3 years in a similar role in an accountancy practice, we’d still love to hear from you.
  • have a strong working knowledge of Xero software.
  • be a confident team member with excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
  • have experience of preparing VAT returns from start to finish, resolving and dealing with queries and liaising with HMRC as this may be required on an ad hoc basis
  • able to support the partners in any tasks requested.
